In the last instalment in my Amsterdam trip [wipes tear from eye] I thought I'd talk about my amazing hotel. When I travel, once I've chosen the location, I then choose my hotel and here the design certainly comes into play. Being an interior design geek, the aesthetic has to have that creative wow factor and having done my homework [and checked out the reviews on Trip Advisor] I knew I was on to a winner! My hotel of choice on this trip was The Novotel Amsterdam City and I'm so glad I made the right choice. The location was perfect! - Not in the centre mind you, but super easy to get to all the action. For starters I could get a straight train from the airport right to my hotel and pop into town. It's just a hop-skip-and-a-jump to tram No.4.
Getting back to the hotel design... the theme here seems to be green, fresh, funky. These chairs above were just so comfy! You know those chairs that you can snuggle up in with a good book or your iPad and just chillax - yep those are these. They also had these green pod/booths for those who want to have a mini catch-up with someone or to thrash out design ideas in a calming space. The vibe from the hotel was a good balance between professional and relaxed and everyone was so welcoming. From reading all the reviews, I heard that the breakfast was to die for so being a food lover I was looking forward to check it out! Heading down to the restaurant, which is just beyond the bar, there was a variety of fruits, cereals, meats, cheeses and breads plus loads of hot & cold drinks. In order to get a good start and focus you gotta get a good hearty breakfast and I certainly got that here [thanks Trip Advisor reviews]. What I also loved was these great single booths where you can catch up on a bit of TV whilst tucking into your breakfast - Genius!
I know you're all dying to know what my room was like...well I did get bumped up to the Executive Suite but I'm sure the same could be said for the other rooms at the hotel...my room was great - located on floor 15 with the most amazing views of Amsterdam. The orange pillows [I loved those] and the bed were uber comfy and equipped me for a good two nights rest. The toiletries were't bad either. Although I brought my own little luxuries with me the little containers of scrubs, soaps, creams and smoothies were lush! I loved the bespoke slots they all came in - a nice little touch, which shows attention to detail.
The hotel is clean, modern, fresh and funky and I love the fact that they're not afraid to play with textures here. Black polished woods, rugged wall textures and smooth frosted glass finishes are all implemented at the Novotel. With a great friendly service and a relaxed yet professional ambience and don't forget the amazing breakfast, it certainly gets the HOP thumbs up and will stay on my list of hotels to visit! So what do you think about this hotel? Like the design? Would you stay here too? I'd love to know what you think.
