What A Difference A Year Makes

Oh my lowrd, where has the year gone. I mean, I remember toasting to 2011 then the next I'm about to party like it's 2012. The past 365 days have flown by but have been some of the most creative I've seen in a long time! This year my new years resolution has been to get my size 7's into the interior design industry and although that hasn't quite materialised in terms of a tangible job it has manifested into some amazing opportunities. It started off with an interview at John Cullen Lighting with the fabulous Lucy Martin, such a wonderful and talented lighting designer. Although it was just an interview I learnt so much about lighting from that interview process than I could in a class. Such an amazing company. Although I didn't get the role it was a great experience. Shortly after I 'virtually' met the lovely Arianna Trapani - Interiors Blogger and Editor of Heart Home Magazine who featured me on her wonderful blog Arianna Interiors. This also lead to a feature on MyDeco.
I then went on to gain a great intern position at interior design house Tara Bernerd & Partners. What a great experience that was. I adore Tara's personal and design style so it was such a pleasure to intern there.

Shortly after that internship my creative life exploded! I started blogging and created House of Paul (HOP) Interiors and from that point, I added another dimension to my creative world. In such a short space of time (eight months to be exact) I've met my design heroes Kelly Hoppen MBE (twice - Eeeek!) and the wonderful Jonathan Adler. I've also been privileged to cover some amazing interior shows and events. Through my blog I've showcased and met loads of new, talented creatives, I've met Holly Becker (Creator of Decor8 and author of Decorate) at her seminar at 100% Design London and have given away some great gifts along the way.

So although I didn't reach my initial New Years goal I have achieved so much...

So as 2011 fades away and a night of partying begins, I want to wish all my readers, followers, friends and those I have met along the way.... A Happy and Creative New Year!

Adding Cool Sparkle & Glamour

Sometimes, when working on your own home design project, it's not always that easy to completely redesign an entire room at once. Being so close to Christmas I really wanted to add a touch of cool glamour and a sprinkle of sparkle to my boudoir. So after lots of careful sourcing, taking into consideration; budget, colour, size and scheme I chose this fabulous Gem Ball ceiling light from M&S. I like the way it bounces the light into all the corners of the room whilst adding a nice cool touch to my slumber.

My Christmas Décor Inspiration

All images credited: House To Home

I love Christmas especially the element of decoration, that allows us to add a bit of colour to our humble abodes. These festive spaces represent my Christmas design style - a little goes a long way. This rings true with lighting - little fairy lights hung well adds a warm and cosy atmosphere. I particularly like the navy interior space in the first interior image. It goes to show that navy isn't as dull as some people make out and with the right tone of silver and ambient lighting you can make a wonderful scheme - shine!

Amy Winehouse: Delightful Tribute

I greatly admire the late Amy Winehouse and like many was very saddened to hear the news of her premature death. So when I discovered that lighting company DELIGHTFULL have launched a light range in tribute to the unique singer and talented songwriter AMY I just had to share it with you all.

Amy's latest album - The Lioness was launched on Monday and just shows even more so how talented she was. It comes highly recommended by the HOP House!

Guest Blog: By Sofas and Stuff: Best of British for Christmas

We like to think we are the experts in comforts and with Christmas on the horizon, there's no better time to get comfy on the sofa. We're already thinking of the carol singers, mistletoe and mulled wine - at this time of year, there's no better place to be than right here in Britain. So in the spirit of the forthcoming festive season, we thought we would bring you our picks of the best of British produce and products for you and the family this Christmas. And all of them can be enjoyed while snuggled up on the sofa...
So now we've sorted the sofa, what else can we add to the mix to make the perfect Christmas scene? As promised, here are our top tips for the best of British Christmas goodies.

Mince Pies

The search for the perfect mince pie is a long and arduous road but can there be anything more quintessentially British than mince pies from the internationally famed Harrods? These beautifully made mince pies are made with cranberries and are perfect with a scoop of clotted cream - go on, it is Christmas after all!

Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is another Christmas classic and is the perfect ingredient to warm your cockles on those cold winter nights - it's the perfect beverage to enjoy snuggled up on the sofa. But why settle for an off the shelf bottle, when you can make your very own using these traditional mulled wine bundles from one of our favourite foodie haunts, The Bay Tree.

Christmas Stockings

Even though we're meant to be all grown up now, there's still something magical about hanging up a stocking on Christmas Eve, especially if you have kids! We just love these handmade stockings by Tickety-Boo - they are all handmade and can be personalised with the name of your choice.

Crackers

Continuing with our lust for handmade British goodies, we've moved onto another festive essential - crackers! Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without crackers but with these amazing creations, you won't have to settle for the usual rubbish plastic toy. All these crackers are handmade by Designer Crackers and they've had orders right from the top, including 10 Downing Street.

Wallace and Gromit DVD

All images have been supplied by Sofas and Stuff

Christmas just isn't complete without watching a few Wallace and Gromit re-runs on the telly. There's just something about these loveable creations and Christmas wouldn't be the same without watching at least one of their instalments. A little bit of a silly one, but a firm favourite of ours during the festive season!

So that's all for now folks but we'd love to hear about your top picks for the best of British this Christmas - just leave a comment, who knows there may be room for round two?

Brought to you by Sofas and Stuff - makers of beautiful British sofas.

Let's Fill This Town With Artists!

Last week I was invited down to the Cass Art flagship store in Islington for their 10th Anniversary. I've visited this store many times before and I always find it's great for a one-stop-shop for all the tools I need to complete my visual interior projects for my diploma.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the store, let me give you a visual tour. Spread over three floors the store has everything you need for a creative project. It can be hard to find all those creative, crafty bits for your little-ones' and the lower ground floor has it all. Here you'll find items from colouring books, paints to stencils!
Cardboard Alphabets which you can personalise
My favourite Christmas picks are these cardboard alphabet letters. These are great for personalising a little-ones room or you can even create your own Christmas inspired decorations. The great thing about this range is that it not only includes letters but symbols - great for adding that personal touch to your space.
Festive Christmas decor
Decorate these in colours to suit your scheme
I then headed up-stairs - Here is where you'll find everything paper and 'organise-related'. Paper, sketch books, portfolios, pads, canvases. I found the staff to be always on-hand to help with whatever I needed. Cass Art prides itself on hiring staff who have a sound background in the creative world. Ranging from fine art, painters, artists to illustrators you will get the good advise for your needs and project.
Definitely filling the town with artists
The final floor I visited yet the first you'll see as you walk in is the ground floor. Here you can acquire all the bits you need from fixing sprays, paints, brushes, markers to colouring pencils and special offers. Cass Art stock a wide range of brands and choice here so you have plenty to choose from. They even run workshops which I find is a nice opportunity to learn something new or develop your interest further.
Like what you see? Well Cass Art's 10th ANNIVERSARY SALE starts today with up to 85% off. With a wide choice of products I say it's worth taking a trip down there.
