LDF: 100% Design

Having already been to TENT LONDON and DESIGN JUNCTION I was ready to visit one of the most popular shows of the season - 100% Design.
100% DESIGN was indeed full of creative products but I think 100% Korea Design stole. The products were so out-side-the-box and innovative.

Check out my highlights from this here show below...
Ta-Rae lighting - a design inspired by spools of thread
The lamp shades come in a variety of colours and creates a visual rhythm
NJ Lighting Co. - loved their mesh style ceramic lighting. This would make a wonderful lighting effect on the wall
These chairs were so adorable and would look great in a nursery. The fabric & wall coverings were designed by Paperboy
This is a great take on the magazine holder! I loved its egg shape and the various colour combinations and materials it came in. Really liked the leather too.
Why go small! This is definitely an eye-catching bookcase designed by French company Morph in Design
The highlight of the show for me was attending the 'BLOGGING YOUR WAY TO SUCCESS'by Holly Becker.
This is such a great architectural take on the table and bench design

VERDICT:
Although I wasn't 100% wowed by the entire show, 100% Design never fails to show wonderful products and inspirational seminars. The highlight for me was Holly Becker and 100% Korea Design!

LDF: Design Junction/Tent London

I love this time of year - the shows, the  quirky inspiring products and people. Yep, it's LONDON DESIGN FESTIVAL time and I took the opportunity with both hands to go and visit the new shows of the season.

Working in admin, which isn't very creatively inspiring, getting to these shows is key for me to develop, grow and expand my creative mind!
With a quick yet strict one hour lunch break to spare I whizzed to DESIGN JUNCTION! It's the first time this show is 'showing' in London after it's debut in Milano - Italy. I loved the warmth from this show. The exhibitors and designers were so nice and highly talented. I'd like to share a few of my favourites with you including RESIDENT a New Zealand furniture and lighting company. Resident are new to the UK and specialise in unique furniture pieces and light fixtures which can be be flat-packed and re-assembled.
I really liked GENEVIEVE BENNETT. Not only is Genevieve such a nice down-to-earth person but her designs are so unique and different to anything I've seen at the moment. Genevieve's designs are 100% leather, are hand craved and have such great detail. These would look amazing as wall panels or as a feature wall

DEADGOOD caught my eye too. I'd seen them at Clerkenwell Design Week so this was a great opportunity to see their new collection. I particularly loved the 'Ribbon Stool' which has been commissioned for The Breast Cancer charity.
After work I then headed to TENT LONDON. I'm ashamed to say it was my first trip ever to the show. Yes, I know, terrible, especially as I live in East London so it's just a hop, skip and a jump away from me.
This was the fifth year for tent at the Old Truman Brewery. I truly loved this show and will definitely be heading back for 2012! The people were so inspiring and the talent shone through.
It was great meeting Russell Callow of LONDON TIMEPIECE. I loved his quirky meets retro style & persona and the honesty of his work. I found his clocks to be very iconic which reminded me of the good-old-days. Russell has refurbished these German clocks to a very high standard.

MINI MODERNS also caught my eye! Again with that British, retro feel matched with a 'Holidays at Home' theme. I really fell in love with these cushions. It must be the 80s kid in me. You can also colour-in the cushions too which would be a nice touch for a kids bedroom.
Last but by no means least, the collaboration between DESIGN BARK (master of screen printing) and furniture designer BYPLY was one of my favourites. The chair design was indeed awesome and the printed design and colour choice really married together well.
I really loved the way this designer knitted the union hack on this chair. It's unique and makes me want to just dive in with a good book and cuppa tea!
Sonya Winners designs really do push the boundaries and is an example of what good design is all about

Anthony Hartley's hand made designs are a breath of fresh air! I liked 'Sidney' the shelving unit.

VERDICT:
Welcome DESIGN JUNCTION please can you come back next year! The collections were great, fresh and unique. TENT LONDON - WoW, great designers, great people, great design - see you in 2012.

Bisazza - Sloane Avenue

I'm currently prepping for a great project I'm working on which is a residential apartment property. The scheme must reflect sophistication, individuality and styleWhat better place to go for chic, sophisticated high-end finishes than Italian tile connoisseurs Bisazza.
High gloss chrome-plated aluminium frame mirror
I love Bisazza for its wide range of high quality tiles and the detail of their moasics which are almost like art. Their flagship store based on Sloane Avenue is an amazing place to source high spec hard finishes. Although it was like being a big kid in a candy store I stayed focused. having already sourced floor samples and shutters I took those along with my concept in mind and started to pull all those tile samples which suited. At Bisazza you will have a vast range to choose from so the most difficult part for me (other than leaving the showroom) is editing.

I left with an amazing choice of samples which I feel will work well with this scheme and I can now press forward working on creating a wonderful scheme so watch this space!

Heart Home Magazine Launch Party

Oh What a night! Yesterday haled the start of a wonderful digital magazine publication - Heart Home Magazine. Like many I couldn't wait to see the first edition, especially as I've had the pleasure to know Arianna herself - a great fellow blogger Arianna Interiors.
Carole, Daniel and Arianna
The magazine is just fantastic! Full of real-life interior stories, interior and fashion finds and news all packed in a great digital magazine. As the new kid on the block 'Heart Home' can stand tall on its own as an interiors online publication. There are three brains behind the magazine - Editor-in-Chief Arianna Trapani & Carole King and Art Editor Daniel Nelson. As strong leaders they head up a creative army; illustrator (Gemma Milly), writers and contributors who have all come together to create a wonderful publication.

I grabbed a few minutes to interview Arianna to celebrate the launch. Check it out...

Congratulations!

Launch party in full swing at the Conran Shop - Sloane Avenue

HOP: Congratulations on the first edition of Heart Home magazine. How did the idea come about?
HH: There was a lot of discussion on social media about digital magazines. One of them being why wasn’t there a British online magazine yet?! With so many from the US and from Australia there was no real UK lifestyle digital magazine so it was definitely an idea that was out there waiting to be grabbed by someone. It was something that I started to think about and a few days later I met up with Carole King (dear designers blog) and we started having a long discussion about it. It was clear we both had the same vision for an online magazine but were not sure how to go about it. It all seemed a bit daunting at first. However shortly after at another design meeting we ran the idea to Daniel (Atelier Tally & mydeco)  and he was just as enthusiastic as us. Being a graphic designer and a social media genius we realised we had the perfect team. From that moment we never looked back and just went for it.

HOP: How has the transition from interiors blogger to interiors journalist been
HH: Oh I wouldn't call myself an interiors Journalist, I'm a blogger right till the end. That's the difference of a digital magazine, it's about bringing fresh content on a totally new dimension. I suppose there is more work than running your own blog but then that really depends on your blog. Some blogs are like proper magazines. So really I don't think there has been a transition....

HOP: What is your favourite feature of the magazine
HH: I cannot really pick just one. I have loved going onto photo shoots, meeting the home-owners and looking at their homes. That is the best part of the job. I have also enjoyed working with the lovely photographers and stylist too. Also meeting new interesting people as well, it's all about inspiring people who inspire us :)
HOP: What are the three things you cannot live without
HH: 1. Family & friends - nothing makes sense without them!
        2. BlackBerry- I'm always on the go so this is my saviour!
        3. Food - without fuel I cannot function ;)

Guest Blog: Mid-Century Modern Design

Hi there! This is Jenn and I write for Arcadian Home Decor -- an e-commerce website that specializes in top home decor and design ideas from North America, Europe and beyond, and I love being a part of their creative team. I've always had a love for home decor, especially streamlined mid-century designs like the ones presented on House of Paul Interiors, where her posts always showcase great trends and fabulous spaces. Thanks for letting me guest post Mary-Ellen!
Mid-century home decor dabbled in bright shades, curvaceous furniture, loud patterns, and even new home accessories like metallic wall hangings and light fixtures. In modern design, trends are drawing on the influence of the 1950s and putting a new spin on things. Here are eight mid-century modern design ideas.

While the colours of this space may be earthy and reminiscent of the 1950, the individual home accessories, such as wall art, are quite contemporary.

Because geometric prints were all the rage in mid-century home decor, the table decorations and lamp base are what give away the hints of retro style. The remainder of the room, however, is very present-day.

The Double-Duty Room

A space that pulls double-duty as a workspace and bedroom also boasts mid-century modern design, with a mixture of old fads like the tulip chair to new trends such as a cowhide rug.

Retro-inspired furniture in bold colours is a style that is back and more popular than ever. The neutral background and floor-to-ceiling windows come together with these throwback pieces seamlessly.

Statement-Making Metallic

In the 1950s designers started to experiment with metallic materials, and in this living room, copper and bronze hues reign supreme. The vintage chairs may be antique but the streamlined built-in furniture and window panels are very contemporary.

The ingredients for a snazzy old yet new living room is this: rich colour, posh tufted furniture, and mid-century wall art. And that's it!

Lovely Lattice Work

Lattice-work chairs were an elegant choice for dining rooms several decades ago and again for 2011. The rich wood paneling and wainscoting are present-day luxuries.

Cutting-Edge Cuisiniere

The blue plastic and mesh kitchen chairs may bring back memories of mid-century cafeterias, but in a modern kitchen they look decidedly chic. The motif on the curtains keep the retro feel alive while the frosted cabinet doors are a common feature in today's kitchens.
